‘A freezing horror’ – the wreck of the Halsewell, 1786 - Philip Browne, Local History Author

go back

One of the most dramatic shipwrecks on an English shore will be the subject of a talk by Dorset writer, Philip Browne. Drawing on his book, ‘The Unfortunate Captain Peirce and the Wreck of the Halsewell’, he will describe the terrible events that shocked the nation, when a huge East India Company Ship was wrecked off the Purbeck coast in Dorset.

Philip, a retired teacher, and education advisor has researched and written an historical biography of the event, which was published in 2016 by Hobnob Press.
