
Dorset Archive Trust is delighted to be hosting an online talk on the Bournemouth-based department store, Beales, which closed its doors for good in March 2020.
It will be given by Dr Kate Terkanian, Senior Lecturer in Modern History at Bournemouth University. She will be discussing the origins of the store and track the changing fortunes of Bournemouth town centre and the department store in general.

Dr Kate Terkanian is Senior Lecturer in Modern History with a special emphasis on Public History. Her project Bournemouth and Beales: Department Stores, Community, and the Decline of the High Street collected oral history interviews, which are now stored in the Dorset History Centre, and will be used to illustrate her talk.
Her new National Lottery Heritage Fund project Coastal Communities, Coastal Stories will continue documenting memories of Bournemouth’s town centre.
