Joining the dots - Bournemouth transport in the 1920s with Colin Edwards, transport history researcher
Following WWI, Bournemouth’s tramway system was in poor condition with opposition to raising fares and an increasing use of motor vehicles. So how did Bournemouth Borough Council marry the different transport requirements of its residents and growing numbers of tourists to this new seaside resort?
Colin Edwards is researching the 1920s Bournemouth transport network for his MA dissertation. He will show how he’s used various archive collections at the Dorset History Centre and elsewhere to investigate this fascinating period in public transport history.
