Proper storage of archival material is vital in preserving archives (documents, volumes, photographs, maps etc) for the future. The collections are stored in environmentally monitored and secure strongrooms with fire protection. Correct packaging protects the archives from a range of threats including dust and damage by pests. Older packaging materials often cause damage to archives: boxes and folders made of acidic materials, dyed legal tape and rusting metal clips and pins which can corrode or stain paper and parchment. The Dorset History Centre has an ongoing repackaging programme carried out by staff and volunteers. Purchasing the specialist packaging is costly.

A donation of £10 enables us to repackage the contents of one box.  Sponsoring a box makes a marvellous gift and donations to this box go specifically to support this repackaging programme helping us to Save Dorset’s disappearing history.
