
Background
Dorset Archives Trust (DAT) works to support the activities of Dorset History Centre (DHC), the county's archives and local studies service. DAT is keen to encourage and the use of collections by students in the furtherance of their academic careers and opportunities for summer work experience in an archive service.
Claims
Claims for travel expenses may be made by any student registered at an accredited British university or FE college wishing to travel to DHC in pursuance of their coursework when accessing archive collections held there or for attending DHC for a work experience placement. The student will need to provide suitable evidence of their student status.
Payment
Payment will be made retrospectively up to the value of £100 in full or part reimbursement of the cost of travel to DHC from the student's home or college addresses. Only one payment per person can be made in each academic year.
Rates
Dorset History Centre is within 15 mins walking distance of Dorchester West and Dorchester South Railway Stations. • Public transport: reimbursement will be made for journeys undertaken upon submission of appropriate receipts e.g. train, coach or bus tickets. • Private vehicle: reimbursement will be made at the rate of thirty pence per mile upon submission of the DAT claim form detailing the journeys undertaken. • N.B. Please note we will not reimburse taxi fares unless you have additional access requirements, please contact us on the email address below for further advice.
Process
When contacting the Dorset History Centre with regard to planning your research or applying for a work experience placement please indicate that you would wish to take advantage of this support for travel. If there are funds available and you meet the eligibility criteria, or a work experience placement is confirmed you will be sent a form and details of how to make a claim. (N.B. There is an annual fund available per academic year, but this will be allocated on a first come first served basis and when spent no more funds will be available until the next academic year.)
