Dorset Archives Trust funded the purchase at auction for Dorset History Centre in July 2024 of a set of papers relating to the Poole-resident artist Arthur Bradbury (1892-1977). DHC was delighted to have secured this material which will be catalogued and made available to public in the near future. The collection consists of sketchbooks, correspondence, photographs, printed material and ephemera. Bradbury was a member of the Royal Academy. He was an etcher and teacher who before taking up painting was a merchant marine cadet; the sea and ships were fond subjects of his and he was a keen sailor with easy access to the water from his home on Sandbanks. He studied art at St John’s Wood School of Art and Royal Academy Schools. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and elsewhere, extensively at Walker’s Galleries. The Imperial War Museum and Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, Bournemouth, hold his work.
