Fooks of Sherborne, solicitors - business and personal records (Reference: D-3081)

These records, acquired through an Exeter auctioneer, span the years 1799 to 1912.

The records primarily relate to the business activities of Fooks, but they were also accompanied by some material relating to the early days of driving in Dorset. In particular, a small green volume recorded trips in a motor car around Dorset and Somerset with numerous details about mileages and the performance of the vehicle concerned, a 2 cylinder 'Little Star', purchased in 1902. Interestingly, we were contacted by someone in Scotland who had tracked the auction purchase to DHC and sent a picture of his vintage vehicle (now resident near Perth) - which seems very likely to be the same car described in the records - a lovely coincidence.
